Job 1036 — Fireplace Bump-Out

Job 1036 — Fireplace Bump-out
built-ins Jacksonville, FL 2026

Living rooms are for living. 1036 took a standard “living” room and turned it into a show room. With shiplap walls that match their kitchen, walnut butcher blocks, and the gorgeous walnut mantel, the owners are soaking in the beauty day by day.

1036 was a perfect job, literally. No big headaches with installation, no crazy lessons learned. It was the result of the previous jobs that all had compounded over the last year.

The features of the project that aren’t so visibile: recessed outlets built into each butcher block top for lamps and digital picture frames; soft close partial overlay doors; maple interior construction of the cabinets (including two adjsutable shelves each).

The walnut mantel for this job was my first take at a mantel. It was built with a lock-miter router bit, which is a mechanical joint that will hold it flat and straight over time. The inside is hollow, but gives the illusion of a solid beam of walnut. The entire piece is like a work of art: walnut is gorgeous. Anywhere I have clients wanting to showcase wood, I get happy. This mantel really brought everything together.

From rough framing the bump out to the final trim around the fireplace, the room felt more complete every time a detail was added. It’s funny how that works. Projects like this just keep getting better.
